Commie Curmudgeon has one, Much-Needed Definitions of "Solidarity"

Alright. I've reached a point reading all this, that clearly demonstrates I am utterly lacking an understanding of the "Third". I didn't start out that way. What I didn't think I was confused about, I have become confused over.
Is anyone here willing to offer me insight / links?

Touched by bloodless abstraction; Nation's Snowmen; The Politics of 1999

I'm not sure if this is relevant or not.

Ricia, in its simplest formulation the "Third" refers to all of those who are not here before me, all of those I am not engaged with when my attention is focused on the person immediately in front of me - all the "other Others" as Derrida once said. Within the context of the current discussion, it seems that its meaning has been broadened to include the Universal, Justice, or even the Political in general.
I am not sure if that helps.

Luke, I don't see how the post by Norm Geras adds very much.
Posted by: Matt | February 11, 2006 at 04:29 PM
Matt, really? I don't know Norm Geras at all, but this post seems to me highly significant as a concrete example. Don't have time to go into why here but I vote to put it on the list . . .

Luke, Matt, Adam: I've added it as "adjacent" to this conversation.

I'd say you're welcome, but I'm fairly certain you meant to thank Alain.

Nate

Apologies. Fixed.

And another. (Looks to see if Anthony's armed with ducks. Is satisfied he isn't. Gets shot in the face by the VP who mistook him for a quail.)
