Germany vs Argentina France vs Whomever Open Thread!
Apologies to CR for being frivolous (then again post-not, complain-not; and for seriousness' sake, as you well know, there is Zizek in the summertime.) I haven't the faintest idea how these things work, but all half-grudging respects to champions aside, do sort of enjoy the fanciful thought of Germany playing France.
Brian Lamb's got a great post from Zagreb, in which he recommends TomDispatch on the politics of the game. For an alternate take, and a few apposite remarks on the Global North's crumbling faith in 'Brazil' manifesting itself in endless laments over Ronaldo's lion lethargy/mediocrity, see over here. All references to philosophers in comments –if they be other than soccer players – strictly banned. Have at it, if you care to.

Hey, now wait. Why am I the go to guy for contra-frivolity? And perhaps it's time for me to come back into the fold, no? After all, I'm one of the founders of this glorious endeavor. Whatchyou guys think?
Argentina is team #2 for me. I'm on weekend vacance avec la bebe a Toronto, but I snuck away from our lunch table of distastrously airborne fries to watch teh shoot out. Ouch.
(BTW. I saw with my own 2 eyes Mr. Tevez play with Boca Juniors in Argentina at La Bombonera when he was like 19 years old. Scored a goal that day. So there...)

But tomorrow team nombre une plays. I'm trying to talk my wife into skipping baby's First Evah Major League Baseball Game so that we can watch. Vive la France. Brazil is all well and good, but let's keep our priorities straight, kay?

Well they obviously deserved this one. Truly epic. Plus that goal was spectacular. A double-header, as it were.

Which in any case should really go for all guest-posters as well. And summer is a slower time. Don't be afraid to be spontaneous, (or frivolous, so long as in good health and moderation!) anyone.
